Camp Jackson.
The Camp Jackson ice plant has
been practically completed and will
be ready to begin work manufacturing
Ice in the next two or three days.
It is now being run as cold storage
plant and the cold storage rooms have
already been put to use. It only remains
for the plant to be operated at
its full capacity to supply the camp
with 20 to 25 tons of Ice every day. I
Thsi will supply only about one-third 1
of the camp's demands.
An audience of several thousand
soldiers and civilians witnessed the ;
largest single parade of artillerymen
ever staged at Camp Jack?on when ;
the 156th Field Artillery Brigade was

whether the war department intended
to discontinue Camp Sevier In Greenville.

was sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
Private Andy A. Johnson,
company G. 323rd Infantry, also
charged with desertion, who was apprehended
near Smithville. Tenn.. was
likewise sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
A linotype typesetting machine is
the latest acquisition of the Camp
Sevier printing office. Nine expert
printers now in the army, are engaged
in running the camp print shop, which
includes in its enutpment two job
presses. All the official forms for
army work at the camp are printed in
the office.
Camp Wadsworth.
Private John McNallv. company H.
56th Pioneer infantry, died at the base
hospital at Camp Wadsworth after
drinking poison. The nffair was an
accident. McNallv and another soldier
were cleaning up the premises of
a mess shack when they found a bottle
branded as a popular soft drink.
McNally drank half the contents of
the bottle and passed it to his companion.
who took but little of the
fluid. Shortly thereafter the men became
violently ill and a few minutes
after they were admitted to the hospital,
McNally died. The stomach
pump was used on the other soldier
and he will recover.

says that the red spider is prevalent
in many parts of the country anil
that the insect is doing a great deal

are doing absolutely nothing toward

discouraging to Mr. Strihling. It 1c
believed that the hog cholera, which
threatened to become epidemic in
Cherokee county has been stamped
out by the use of anti-cholera serum.
Army Officer's Wife Arrested.
Greenville.? Mrs. Edward H Sires,
wife of a captain of the 306th Sanitary
Train. Mst division, uii.il recently
stationed at ('amp Seviei. was arrested
here by federal authorities
on a charge of violation of the espionage
act. The warrant was sworn out
before Commissioner Gantt at Spartanburg
Mrs. Sires gave bond in the
sum of $1,000 and will he given a pre
liminary hearing in a few days. It is
understood that she is a native of
Germany and has been in this country
only three or four years.
Rector En Route to France.
Columbia.?Rev. Kirkman G. Finlay,
accompanied by Mrs. Finlay. left the
city for New York where lie will report
to Y. M. C. A. officials for assignment
to duty with the American forces
in France Mrs. Finlay will remain in
Ne*v York until her husband sails.
During his rectorship of over ten
ears at Trinity Episcopal Church. Mr
Finlay has made many friends who
bid him godspeed in his new work on
the battle fronts and w'ho hope for hit
safe return.
