A Big Plum?Grab It.
There's a juicy commercial
plum right within our reach.
Prior to the war Russia imported
nearlv all of her manufactured
articles from Germany?enormous
quantities of them. Now
Russia seeks to establish close
trade relations with the United
States. She wants to buy her
hundreds of millions of dollars
worth of supplies from us, and
she has the gold with which to
pay. Great possibilities for the
future are opened up to the
manufacturers of this country?
if they will but grasp then]. It
will require the adjusting of
financial conditions to harmonize
with those existing in Russia in
the matter of credits, which are
quite at variance with our
American methods. But what
Germany has been able to do,
we can do?if we try. It is a
simple matter for our great
manufacturing interests to send
representatives to Russia and
pave a way for this tremendous
volume of business. It is too
big a plum to be cast aside, and
it is to be hoped manufacturing
and financial men of affairs will
be equal to the emergency.
Babies Prettier Than Ever.
Even in the midst of war,
France finds time to rejoice over
the fact that its babies born
during the pa..t six months are
healthier and prettier than ever
before. It is a source of much
pride to the republic. But pretty
babies is becoming an old story
in America, and no longer occasions
more than passing comment.
Of all the civilized people
of the earth, there are no healthier
babies born than those of
the United States. Of all the
people of the world, there are
none so pretty as our American
babies. And of all the pretty
babies in existence, there are
none to compare with the babies
of our own town. Our babies
are the acme of perfection and
beauty. And if you doubt our
simple word, just ask the
mothers.
Grouch Proof.
In Chicago a man has just left
a hospital whose inner works
are ail topsy ttirvy, and vet the
world is exceeding bright to him
and his good nature radiates
sunshine wherever he goes. His
heart is on the right side; his
liver is on the left, when it

Let every resident of the town
rid his premises of all tin cans
and other rubbish before the
summer sets in. it will at least
make your home more tidy and
may save a case of typhoid when
the hot weather comes.
Card of Thank*.

The Rock Hill Record says
that in the recorder's court of

Hough was given 30 days on the

Probably Means Reduced Rates.
According to the statements
of local insurance men, Fort
Mill is in line for a reduction in
fire insurance rates on account
of the recently installed waterworks
system. An inspector for
the insurance companies spent
several days last week in Fort
Mill inspecting the water system,
and having expressed himself as
highly pleased with the proi
lection thus afforded, it is expected
that a reduction in rates
will follow his report to the companies
represented.

Generally speaking, times are
good here now. Oats are suffering
for rain on clay land, but are

; see good stands' of cotton and
corn everywhere, both are growing
rapidly. There is no commercial
fertilizer being used this
year. Everybody is planting
velvet beans in their corn fields.
This bean is one of the world's
best forage crops and soil builders,
and is especially adapted to
this section.
