The, beRt possible way, in fact the , only practicable way, to make | ] this community more prosperous , is to make it more populous; we -must have more people right here to consume what we produce and sell. So far as the . wealth and prosperity of this , community are concerned, they , will be promoted as directly by , the purchase and consumption of t What is sold as by the consump- | tion of what is produced here. | .? 1_ ,l: i. u_ ! in oiner worus, imngs must ue \ bought here and the money pro- 1 duced in the community must be < spent and used here if the town i and community are to prosper J as they should. Somewhere back east a judge : has sentenced a young man who ' drinks helHrily to get married J within a month. That judge | must "be a survival from the Dark Ages. What of the woman that might be cajoled into marrying such a sot? No man is fit , for judge or any other position who gives such a sentence. His views of home "and marriage, to say nothing of the rights and happiness of women, are an insult to the intell gcnce and civilization of this twentieth century. | The tramp nuisance might be abated considerably if folks we^e not so soft-hearted as to be imposed upon by every pitiful tale that "Weary Willie" pours out with such glibness of speech. If the present session of the State Legislature is to accomplish nothing more than to force the farmers to curtail acreage next year, then there was little use for the extra ? ession. The regular session i.txt January could have done this much without any ad-' [ ' ditionai cost to the taxpayers. The way to defeat the mail order house is to meet it on its own ground. Advertise profusely and attractively, not by big catalogues, but in and through the local paper. Blease's private sec retary, will be editor of th? Commonwealth, the new papei which has been capitalized al $25,000. The first issue will b? published just before or soor after the legislature convenes in January. The paper will be owned by a stock company, the shares to be only $5 each. It was learned that stock is beinp taken in all parts of the State. The plan is to permit no stockholder to own more than fifty shares.?Greenwood Journal. Sees Doom for New Paper. A company is being incorporated in Columbia for the purpose of publishing a semi-weekly newspaper which will be the prgan of the Governor and his political associates'. It is said the paper will be known as the Commonwealth. The paper is foredoomed to failure. It will last while the money holds out. >r as long as politicians are wiling to put up the cash to keep it ?oing. Nail Delivery bv Contract In order to reduce the cost of laving mail distributed through lie rural uistncis the goveifluent may let out the work of arrying rural mail on contract. Postmaster (General Burleson is n favor of this plan instead of liring rural carriers. The re:ent increase in the pay of ural carriers has resulted in idditional expense, and it was nade against the protest of the jostoftice department. The poitical influence of the rural arriers may interfere, it is said, vith the consummation of Postnaster General Burleson's plan, t is estimated that the governnent could save $20,000,000 a rear by letting the rural service >ut by contract. | j : 1 Developing the Air Service.^ * j Sensational use of air craft in 11 the great European war has i i added to steps ordered by the . war deprrtment to at once carry , out the provisions of the act of , last July to increase the effiI ciency of the aviation service of the army.
