Would Help Storm Sufferers.
Mr. John T. Roddey, of the
Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce,
according to the Rock Hill Herald,
wired Governor Blease some
facts about the hail-storm disas- n
ter. The governor replied regretting
that there was no provision
of law under which such
things could be handled effectively:
but said that he would be

NOT WISE TO
TAKE CALOMEL
Dodson's Liver Tone is just as
sure in results and always safe,
pleasant in taste and has no bad
after-effects. As a remedy for
a torpid liver calomel has more
than nu t its match in Dodson's
^ Liver Tone. This medicine does
^ not roughly force the liver on to
perform its work. It acts gently
Lu surely.
Calomel depends for its power
upon exciting the liver to do
more work, and often the liver
is too weak to stand such treatment.
ar.d after taking calomel
you are as a result sometimes
worse off than before.
Dodson's Liver Tone cannot
cause any of the dangerous
effects that often follow thence'
of calomel. It is entirely vegetable
and pleasant to the taste,
and is suitable for children and
grown people.
Get a large bottle for fifty
cents at Ardrey's Drug store
under the guarantee that if it
doesn't satisfy you that it perfectly
takes the place of calomel
you will be given your money
back with a smile right at the;
store where you bought Dodson's
medicine.

W. B. Ardrey was absent from ;
town several days last week in j
Charlotte and elsewhere on J
matters connected with the work ,
of the public wocks commission. '
The Times was mistaken last
week in the initials of Mr. !

a home in Sprattville. It was 1
Mr. C. J. Walker, instead of
"J. C. Walker," as stated.
Lewis W. King, of Rock Hill,
has taken the position of over- j
seer of carding and spinr.i- g in
mill No 1 of the Fort Mill Mfg. '
company, succeeding E. W. j
Netlu r.and, who has taken a
position at Whitmire.
Mayor McElhaney has called a
meeting for Friday night of all
the committees appointed to arrange
for the celebration here
on August 5th. Each committee 1
man is requested to be present j
Friday evening:.
Miss Mary Lewis was hostess

Work was begun several days
ago on the large waterworks ,
tank on Ardrey's hill. The conerete
foundation is down and
work on the 7f>-foot steel tower
which is to support the tank
will begin within a few days.
The first car of steel is now
being placed on the ground.
Mr. Tnos. R. Garrison, of
Pim-ville, on Monday closed a
deal with Mr. T. Franklin Massey
for the Massey homestead on :
Booth street, this city, the con- I
sideration being, it was said,
$1,750. According to current
report, Mr. Garrison intends to
move his family to Fort Mill
and occupy the residence within
the next few months.
The baseballists of the town
are in a quandary as to where
they are to secure a new ball
diamond. The opening of the
new residence property north
of Main street has knocked out
the ball park in that section and
it will be difficult to secure
another ground as well adapted
to this nonular snort as thnt inof
closed.
There has been considerable
worry among the employers of
colored laborers in this city and
vicinity during the last ten days
owing to the fact, as reported,
that a certain contractor has
raised the daily wages of the
ordinary laborer to $1.50. The
consequence has been, according,
to report, that some of the men
who had heretofore had little
trouble in maintaining full forces
are now almost without help.
Of interest to the large number
of people using the county
bridge across the Catawba river
between Rock Hill, Yorkville,
Fort Mill and Charlotte is the j
assurance of early improvements
to the road approaching
the bridge on the Fort Mill side.
Friday afternoon C. P. Blankenship,
township supervisor, together
with a committee of
citizens from Fort Mill, met the
county supervisor, T. VV. Boyd,
at the river bridge and arranged
for the improvements which will
be begun at once.
The public land sale held in
this city Tuesday by the United
Realty company, of Birmingham,
Ala., was a decided success in
the opinion of the promoters.
There were 40-odd lots offered
and almost all of them were bid
in at prices ranging from $50
to Among the buyers j'
were several business men of
the town who, it is understood, ;
will erect residences on the 1
newly acquired holdings within ;
the next few months. The sale j;
Tuesday was attended by several
hundred people, many coming in \
from the surrounding country,
and a number from the nearby
towns.
