The Bond Election.
The election for the issue o
$15,000 in bonds for the installa
tion of a water system in For
Mill will he held tomorrow. Th<
reasons that demand the s.vsten
are too well known to be cited
On the issue of the election wil
turn the question of whether th<
town w ill take a progressive stei
or whether it will be brought t(
a standstill with a probability o
retrograding in the matter o
material md industrial enter
prisear not to speak of the de
terioration of the health eon
ditions that must follow from i
lack of pure water which the sys
tun would furnish. We feel thai
it is for the best interests of th<
town that this issue of bond:
shall be made and we urge tin
patriotic citizens of Fort Mil
who are qualified to vote in tin
election t< morrow to interrupt
their private activities lonj.
enough to go to the polls an<
vote.
Time to Clean Up.
Spring made its advent a fev
days ago and it is now time thai
the residents of Fort Mill shoulc
busy themselves in cleaning uj
their premises, both inside anc
out. During the winter month:
there is a natural tendency foi
filth to accumulate in the bacl
alleys and yards of the city, anc
if the condition is allowed tc
continue, it constitutes not onh
an offense to the eyesight am
often to the nostrils, but is i
menace to the healthfulness oJ
the community as well. Foi
several years Fort Mill has helt
a "clean up" day. and already
the work of gathering rubbish
in the present spring cleaning
up campaign has been commenced
by a number of the boys
of the town. Tuesday, April 21,
is the last day for gathering tin
trash, for on this day a spccia
committee to be named by tlu
mayor will make an inspectior
of all the trash piles and aware
the prizes offered by council tc
4 the young fellows showing the
largest piles. Much good has
been accomplished in formei
clean-up campaigns and it is believed
that the work this spvinp
will show equally as good results.
Residents of the city
should co-operate with the boys
by giving them free access tc
the premises and assist them
in any other possible way in ridding
the town of all trash and
decayed matter. The clean-u]

residents have, with absolutely
no expense to themselves, ol
putting their premises in condition
for the long summei
months soon to follow.
A vote for the bonds means a
slight increase in taxation, bul
a vote against the bonds mean*
the sacrifice of the upbuilding
and general healthfulness of the
town, to say nothing of the
great convenience it will afford
the residents. I)o you considei
a few dollars each year of greater
importance than giving the
town these much needed improvements.
A vote for the bend issue foi
waterworks will moan a step
forward. A vote against it will
mean retrogression. Which way
are you going backward 01
f or ward ?
I Release the brakes, shove in
the clutch, drop a vote for the
waterworks, and let the town
^ move forward.

Encampment at Charleston.
Hi A joint camp of instruction
for the field training of the
regular army and the militia
" troops of North and South Carolina,
Georgia and Florida has
* been ordered by the war de'
partment to be held in the
vicinity of Charleston, S. C.,
from July 1 to August 15. Orders
to this efFect were received
- Monday by Adjutant General
i W. W. Moore, of South Carolina.
- Each State has a federal appropriation
of $18,000 for exj
penses of this campaign. A
regular army officer will he de"
tachcd to command the encampment.
Provision is stated in the order
1 that no more than three regi
ments will be in the encamp1
ment at one time, because of the
? econom.v of holding small en3
campments. The four States
3 are said to have about 14 regif
ments of militia troops.
p This order is the announcement
of the completed plans for
this encampment of the Ninth
division militia troops tentatively
" announced by the war depart1
ment several months ago.

? The seizure in the freight j
depot at Greenville a few days j

^ whiskey may result in an im- i

f a large quantity of whiskey in a

i the upper part of the State. It
r is the opinion in Greenville that

Club Meetings This Month.
The State Democratic con-!

day in May and the county conventions
shall meet on the first
Monday in May of such years."
Tins means that the county con'

April.
I Immediately following: the

the executive committee will be

I aged Mecklenburg county man
sentenced to die April 4th for
wife murder.
Governor Craig's reasons for
- commutation follow:
"When the defendant committed
the murder he evidently
did not realize what he was
. doing. He is old and broken
( down in mind and body. The
jury when they returned a verdict
recommended mercy. Commutation
is strongly urged by
Judge W. J. Adams, who tried
the case, Solicitor George W.
Wilson and a large number of
other good citizens in many
sections of the State."

the following item, under a
Clintnn date line:
"An announcement "tfidt "writhe
of interest throughout the
State as well as here has been
made within the past few days,
the engagement of Miss. Sarah

N r tn Ptfolim U nvivir
of Fort Mill, the wedding to take]
place early in May at the home
of the bride's sister, Mrs. W. G.
Taylor, of Asheville, N. C. Miss
McCrary is most pleasantly
known here, where she has resided
up until a year ago, when
she left to live with her sister at
Asheville. She is a very attractive
and popular young
woman and has many admirers
throughout the State who will
be interested in the announcement."
Mr. Henry is the general

popular mill men of the State,

What Those Coupons
Mean.
If you met a nickle laying in
your path, would you stoop to
pick it. 1 guess you would. How
about a penny? There are mighty
few people in this town who
would not make a quick dive for
it. Well, that is exactly what
our Cash Coupons are, nickles
and pennies, and enough of them
make dollars, and they are good
as long as we are in business.
Of course, they are not good on
railroad trains nor for postage
stamps, but they are good here.
Based or. the present average
purchase, every customer who
enters our store is entitled to a
one-cent cash coupon. Leaving
out Soda Fountain and Cigar
sales the average customer is entitled
possibly to a five-cent cash
coupon, and, as has been said,
these cash coupons are the same
as money in buying, and that's
all money is good for.
Ask for your coupons when
paying for your purchases.
Spend them now or save them
until you accumulate a goodly
sum. Until some special deals
are arranged they are good for
the purchase of anything in the
store.
