THURSDAY. JANUARY 8, 1914.
Next Tuesday's Election.
Next Tuesday will be a day
fraught with great import for
the town of Fort Mill. It is on
that day that the voters are to
say whether the town shall move
\ forward or stand still in the way
of improvements for the next
two years, at least. V\ e believe
that if the citizens on next Tues
day cast their ballots for and
elect a progressive set of town
officials Fort Mill will under the
coming administration experience
unprecedented growth. The
town, as we see if, at present
faces a crisis. A bond issue for
waterworks is pending, the
proposition is being agitated to
buy the Nivens property at the
head of Main street and extend
the street several blocks, the
business men are working for
the location of another cotton
mill or other manufacturing
enterprise, any many residents
are anxious to see additional
paving laid on the town's streets
during the year. All of these
matters should be considered by
the voters in casting their ballots
next Tuesday. The town needs
a progressive set of men to
manage its affairs, and the only
issue in the election is whether
the voters shall recqrd themseive
as in favor of the town's prog.
ress. The Times has no word of
commendation for or criticism
against any of the several candidates
in the race-they are all
well known. Toe voters know
each of the men asking for
election and it is the hope ot
The Times that such men will be
elevated to office as will labor
unceasingly during 1914-1915 for
any and every movement that
will push the town forward.
There is no charitable organization
in the town of Fort Mill,
which is doing more prai.e
worthy service and which deserves
the support of the public
generally more than the
Brraca Class of the local Baptist
church. The purpose of the
class is not only to aid in. the
moral uplift of the people of the
community, but to otfer aid It
the needy, and several timet
recently food, clothing and fuel
have been otfered the destitute.
Whether one is a member of the
Baptist church or the Baracu
class, he should lend a helping
hand in the work which the
class is engaged in doing
