C.. as mall matter of the second class. THURSDAY. DECEMBER 11. 1913. A communication reaches The Times this week from Charlotte and, as the writer failed to give his or her name, we cannot publish same. The Times does not publish anonymous communications. Notwithstanding the suggestion of the Lancaster News that The Times act as arbiter between the Rock Hill Herald and the Rock Hill Record to compose their latest differences, The Times ain't er gvvine to accept the office; but if we may be permitted an observation in this connection it is that The Herald gave The Record n dressing down which should hold The Record for a while. Conditions at the York county home may not be such as to meet with the commendation of the public generally, but it would seem that if there are conditions to be reformed these who feel it incumbent upon themselves to undertake the work through the newspapers ought to be considerate enough to put their views into newspapers which are seen and taken seriously by the public. If an advertisement which appeared in a Charlotte paper a few days ago, asking for information from towns in which a cotton mill could be ndvantngeousl.\ located, was inserted in good faith, it would seem that the business interests of F?>rt Mill might do something light here to promote the growth of the town. Fori Mill has indueements to otter such nr. enterprise and it would not be amiss to investigate this proposition. Our opinion is that the court house commission has done just liVUPtlu if /l/\r?n VAIIVVI t IKIV 1*. U llli t C VIV'IIV in selecting the sit e of the old court house for the new building, and we think if the matter were thoroughly investigated it would be found that in every instance those who hove held out for a new site for the building have been prompted more or less by some monetary gain which would have been theirs had the building been put elsewhere. We have no doubt that a big majority of the people indorse the action of the board and we hope the matter will not be reopened. Aside from the fact that the accident cost a human life, the most deplorable thing in connection with the killing at tin Elks' club in Columbia Saturday night of the negro by Attorney General Peoples is the humiliating thought that the head ol the State's legal department should so far forget what is ex pected of him as to be fount packing a pistol about town. Th< fact that the killing of the negr was accidental will not salve th feeling the public entertains ove the matter?that Mr. Peeples ha< no reason for tarrying a piste on his person. The statemen that Mr. Peoples had carried th Distol to the club to show it tn friend hardly makes the acciden less deplorable; such interest i an engine of human destructio might be partially excusable in boy, but hardly in the attorne general of the Slate. There probably is not a tow of equal size in the United State that has as poor mail facilitu as Fort Mill has been forced t ? ?~ ~ ? - v - / > -vr. " content itself with for the last year or more. During the week the service does fairly well with two mails north and one mail south each day, hut Sundays the lack nf OV*V ir?n np**nof 1 nPl^TYl " wvi tivc tatij modes the people of the town and surrounding- country. For instance: If a Fort Mill citizen desires to communicate with a Party at Rock Hill or other points south and posts his letter after 6:15 p. rn. Saturday, his letter cannot possibly reach its destination before 6 a. m. the following Monday? a loss in transit of exactly 36 hours. Fort Mill gets one mail from the North Sunday morning, but the mail arrives in a lock pouch thrown from the baggage car, and no mail is taken up her by this train. Our people have endured this condition for a longtime in the hope that an improvement would be made in the service, but there now appears nothing further on which to base such a hope, and a number of citizens have asked The Times to submit an appeal for relief. W e scarcely know ; who to address relative to the matter, but will say to Congressman Finlev that if he will take steps that will secure better Sunday mail facilities for this section he will have the everlasting thanks of the people of Fort Mill and surrounding connf Rmnrr q f ho postoffice committee of the house, it would seem that Mr. Finlev would not find it a difficult matter to see to it that present conditions do not continue much longer. one Cent a word STRAYED- -From my home at Grattun, two white ami black spotted male pigs, about six inonihs old.
