Why Not Raise More Lire Stock? '
pgr
With the cowboy and his lariat ^
rapidly disappearing from the
Western plains and the top of aK
the steer market hovering around th<
the $9 and $10 mark, isn't it do
timely that the farmers of this
community should recognize the
fact that there is money to be reJ
made in raising live stock for a '
market? Since the high cost of cei
living became such a vital topic jjs
for discussion and the price of jn)
beef one of the items showing bu
the largest per cent increase in na
price, the packers have been
maintaining- that the law of supply
and demand has been the se
sole cause. In defense of their ha
Ptatements the packers point out th
that no longer are the Western
plains the grazing grounds for y^
thousands of head of cattle which ^
as soon as fattened are shipped
to Chicago. Kansas City or some
other packing center. They say
that reclamation projects and
the cuttine- of the Prarie States
into small tracts for farming
have driven the cowboy and his
lariat out of a job and that the
beef of the future must be grown
bv the soil tiller and not by the
cattle baron who is rapidly passintr
away. ()a
Whether the packers are ritrht an'
or not in dinen^?is of the ?
bieb of livine what they say
of beef for futovp consumption Fi
is t.rne. Even Texas, the once th
great hn^ of tbo lone-horned ?

Agricultural college experts ree- S
ognize that the packers are presenting
fan's and are urging the
farmers of all sections to buy
more feeders and pro into the
cattle-raising- business on a larger
scale. It is said that the average
farmer markets not more
than one or two steers a year,
when he could just as easily feed
a dozen or so and make as much
money as in any other way of
disposing of the crops he raises.
What these experts say are
mighty good tips to the farmers
of this and other communities
Raise more live stock and you
will make more money. .
