Pranks of Ike Li|ktnnf.
Mr. John F. Cordes, of the
River Bend section, was in the <
Rock Hill Herald office Wednes- ,
day morning and related an (
incident that occurred in his
neighborhood Tuesday night that
might well be called miraculous.
He stated that during the storm,
which was pretty severe in that
locality, lightning struck the
house of a Mr. Wallace and
created quite a stir by its mysterious
capers. First it struck the
kitchen flue, knocked it down,
and then went down into the
kitchen and, without damaging
the stove in any way, broke the

uu 01 a Keiue on tne stove. rrom
there it went down through the
floor, under thehou.se and split a
big rock on which one corner of
the house was resting. Not content
with that, it proceeded back
up into the house, went into the
bedroom of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
and struck the post at the foot of
the bed on which they were lying,
splitting the post half in two.
From here it darted into one
corner of the room and broke a
jar that was on a shelf and then
escaped through the fire place up
the chimney. Neither Mr. nor
Mrs. Wallace was hurt in any
way, not even being shocked.
Reno Celebrate*.
They had a great time in Reno
the other night, says The News
and Courier. Bibulously indeed
did the divorce colony and the
lawyers celebrate the action of
the State senate in killing the
proposed new divorce law. which
required of those desiring to get
rid of one spouse and get hold of
another a year's residence in
Nevada. Eleven senators refused
to cripple the greatest
industry in Reno and eleven was
more than a majority. Particularly
jubilant were the local attorneys,
who reported that a large
number of people in the East
have only been waiting for the
Legislature to act betorestarting
to the Mecca of the unhappy.
A Reno divorce is simply a
thing of barter and sale. No
justice holds it up, no morality
attaches to it. On its face it is a
farce, and in its effects it is disgraceful.
Those who have to go
to Reno to get divorces, thereby
acknowledge as a general thing
that there is no merit in their
pleas.

What Are You?
Every community has its shirkers,
jerkers and workers. The
shirkers carefully abstain from
doing- anything to help the town
and systematically oppose every
project designed to benefit it.
The jerkers usually are enthusiastic
for awhile over any new
idea, but the enthusiasm soon
dies out when it is most needed.
The workers deal with every
project for improvement on its
merits, and when it commends
itself to their iudcment thev
push it with all their might and
intelligently until it becomes an
accomplished fact. Ever alert
to the best interests of their
town, and imbued with true local
patriotism, they are untiring in
their efforts to promote its welfare.
and the result is seen in
growth and prosperity. It is up
to every man in this and every
town to decide as to the class he
will join, and whether he will be
a detriment or a valuable asset to
the community.
