Humboldt coun- c ty, 25 miles north of Colconda. The battle raged for three hours ^ nnd ended only when four bucks, ^ two squaws, two children and one of- ,, fleer were killed and one young squaw j. and three ehildrn captured. s When Capt. J. P. Donnelly and j his force of police officers ap- a preached, the Indians. started their v regular war dance aVid then opened (1 the fi-ht. Some of them were wound- v ed in a running skirmish which ex- t tended over a mile. The remaining u Indian; hid in the brush and con- c tinned the fight. j 1 The p dice had'been in pursuit of ( tlto bund of 12 Indians for several ( days, believing that they were the'] murderers of four stockmen who-e ,, bodies were found about ten days , ago in a desolate c ah yon near the j slopes of the Sierra Nevada inoiin c tains. '' ,, The victims' horses had .been taken nnd ponies which had "bedn ridden by the murderers were found shot near c, by, the outlaws apparently concliul- .. <1 ing their own horses strong enough ,, to keep up their 'flight. Coroner s Jluckley and Deputy Sheriff Nofsing- ] er left Golconda today with teams to s bring in the dead and hold the in- s quest. The property of the slain ., men was found by the posse after f the battle. 11ANDIT I.MAPKH OLD TIMKIt. * t The Captain of White Sulphur Kob- v o hers Identified. s George Anderson, who. according ' to his companions, was the leader of the gang which held up and rohhed the Southern railway fast mail train on February IS, near White So!- '1 phur Springs, Ga., has been identified by detectives of the Plnkerton agency as A. K. Miner, a notorious stage coach train robber of tlie ; Northwest. Miner is said to have j escaped from prison at Westminster, ; ltriti-h Columbia, a month after he ,, had been aiven a life sentence for j robbing a Canadian Pacific train on , June S, 1900. Miner also was sus- j pccted of being the leader in the c hold-up of a Canadian Pacific tram, j near Mission Junction, Canada, Sep- , tember to, 1904. According to 11. W. Minster, a detective working on , the case here, Anderson bears mini* j erous marl s which tally exactly with those of Miner.
