A TeacWi Creed. A "teacher's creed" is thus stated by Edwin Osgood Grover: "I believe in boys and girls, the men and women of a great tomorrow; that whatsoever the boy soweth the man shaH reap. I believe in the curse of ignorance, the efficacy of schools?in the dignity of teaching, and in the divine joy of serving another. I believe in wisdom as revealed in human lives, as well as in the pages of a printed book; in les a. Li a. L I sons luugm, iioi so mucn uy precept as by example; in ability to work with the hands, as well as to think with the head; in everything that makes life large and lovely. I believe in beauty in the schoolroom, in the home, in daily life, and the out-of-doors. I believe in laughter, in love, and in all ideals and distant hopes that lure us on. I believe that every hour of every day we receive a just reward for all we are and all we do. I believe in the present and its opi>ortunities, in the future and its promise, and in the divine joy of living." The Greatness of Woman's Love. I (Robert G. Ingersoll.) it is because women are so much better than men that their faults are considered greater. The one thing in the world that is constant, the one peak that rises above all clouds, the one window in which the light forever burns, the one start that darkness cannot quench, is woman's love. It rises to the greatest heights, it sinks to the lowest depths, it forgives the most cruel injuries. Neither coldness norj neglect, harshness nor cruelty, can extinguish it. This is the real love that subdues the earth, the love that has wrought all the miracles of art, that gives us mus ic all the way from the cradle song, to the grand closing sym pnov.y that Dears the soul away on wings of fire a love that is greater than power, sweeter than life and stronger than death. The People Rule. Newberry Observer. It was thought the people were not competent to elect United Sfnfps spnnfnrs anH cr> they put this matter in the hands of the State Legislatures. Our State constitution before the war put the election of governor in the hands of the Legislature, instead of in the hands of the people. Our State constitution of 1868 took it for granted that the people did not know how to elect county auditors and county treasurers, because these offices were supposed to require special skill; and the State constitution of 1895 took the same view. An effort is making now to take the election of the county superintendents of schools out of the hands of the people.
