for York county closed Monday.
A number of the farmer
friends and others were quests
of Mr. J. M. Gamble at an oldfashioned
country dinner at his
home two miles north of town
Thursday. Dancing in the after- ;
noon was one of the pleasures of j
the day.
Columbia Record: Mr. James i
Cansler, of York county ? "Cans-1
ler of Tirzah" ?was a visitor to
the legislative chambers Tues-,
day. He said he intended running
again for railroad commissioner
whenever a vacancy
occurred.
Mr. C. H. Branson, a former
well known citizen of Fort Mill,
who some years ago was superintendent
of the Fort Mill Mfg.
Co., is now merchandising at
Canton, N. C. Associated in the
business with Mr. Branson is his
oldest son, Lester.
Firewood thieves seem to have
been unusually active in Fort
Mill during the last fortnight.
One resident of the town reports
the theft from his back yard
Monday night of a quarter cord j
of hickory wood. Others complain
of the theft from their
premises of lesser amounts of
wood.
Miss Nannie Lee, an aged lady
who lived with relatives in the
Pineville section of Mecklenburg |
county, died Saturday morning
at the home of her niece, Mrs.
W. M. Carrison, in Sharon. Miss
Lee was a member of the Presbyterian
church. The interment
was in Charlotte Sunday afternoon.
Mr. J. A. WagstatT has resigned
as police officer for Pineville
and has moved with his
family to Belmont, N. C., where
he has accepted a similar position.
Mr. Wagstaff is a good police
officer and is likely to make his
presence felt among the lawbreakers
of the Belmont community.
Mr. Joe Parks is Pineville's
new policeman.
Mr. J. A. Ward, a former citizen
of Fort Mill township who
moved to Clover a few years ago.
was in town Saturday. Mr.
Ward says that the recent rise
v in the price of cotton to 15 cents
had the effect of causing a rush
to market with the staple by a
number of farmers in his section
who were holding a part of their
last crop for better prices.
The Rock Hill Herald notes two
changes which have been made
by the Legislature in York's road
law, one concerning the keeping
of streams cleared of logs, etc.,
and the other concerning the
county working roads through
small incorporated towns. The
latter change gives the county
the right to work roads through
such towns, provided the towns
furnish the right of way and the
gravel to be used on the roads.
Sunday afternoon there was
organized at the graded school
building a Bible study group of
young men, with Prof. F. Mason
Crum as leader. The group is
non-denominational and all the
young men of the community are
invited to meet with the group
every Sunday afternoon at 3
o'clock and discuss informally
the studies in the New Testament.
The first studies to be
taken up will be the life of Christ
as recorded by Mark.
Salesday in Yorkville Monday
drew more people to the county
seat than have been present on
such an occasion for several
months, according to the statement
of a number of Fort Mill
citizens who were present. 1 here
were only one or two lots of personal
property and no realty
offered for sale by the county
officers, but the February term
of the common pleas court convened
and this fact coupled with
the promise of a good day's business
for the horse-traders drew
many visitors to Yorkville.

Elizabeth Belk Saturday and
Sunday. Miss Wilson is a student
at Winthrop college.

Wo have several thousand dollars
worth of finished marble and granite
monuments on our yard. This is more
than we consider necessary to carry
and we wish to reduce it by one-half
between this time and the end of the
year. In order to do this we are offering
any headstone or monument now in
stock at a lower price than other dealers
have to pay for the same work.
No use to pay $100 for a monument
when you can buy the same thing from
us at $75. The agent gets the difference.
Come to our yard and keep the $25 in
your pocket.
