to TIMES READERS. !
Mrs. J. H. Sutton, of Fort Mill 1
township, is on a visit to her
daughter, Mrs. Lee Armstrong, '
in Spencer, N. C. j 1
The highest price paid for cotton
on the Fort Mill market
yesterday was 14 1-4 cents. Cot-1
ton seed. 40 cents per bushel.
^ Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Fulp and ]
litue son, 01 wmnsDoro, were |
'\ visitors at the home of Mr. Fulp's !
mother, Mrs. A. O. Jones, during
the last week.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McMurray
spent Sunday in Yorkville at the
bedside of their son, Mr. J. P.
McMurray, who is ill of typhoid
fever. The latest news as to
Mr. McMurray's condition was <
reassuring.
Mr. W. H. Wilkerson, who!
lived on the Carhartt farm, four I
miles from Fort Mill, died of {
heart disease Friday and his remains
were sent to Mooresville,
N. C., Saturday morning for
interment. Mr. Wilkerson was
about 65 years of age.
There were no services at the '
Fort Mill Presbpterian church
last Sunday other than the Sunday
school. The Rev. W. A. ,
Hafner, pastor of the church,
. has been ill for several days and
was unable to fill his pastoral
engagements last Sunday.
The Fort Mill friends of Mr.
Edgar Hoover, brother-in-law of
Mr. A. C. Fite, will be pleased
to learn that he is recovering
satisfactorily from a recent severe
operation for appendicitis.
Mr. Hoover SDent several davs I
in Fort Mill some weeks ago.
The graded school being closed
for the week, a number of the
teachers have taken advantage
of the holidays to visit relatives
and friends at a distance. Superintendent
F. M. Crum is spending
the week at his old home in
Orangeburg, Miss Jessie Wilson
is visiting friends and relatives
in Yorkville and Blacksburg and
Miss Minnie Yarborough is on a
visit to her home in Columbia.
Large and appreciative audi- ,
ences are being entertained ,
nightly by the James Adams '
shows, which are filling a weeks j
engagement under canvass at j
the head of Main street. The
show is the best 10-cent offering
that ever visited Fort Mill and it
presents none of the objectionable
features characteristic of the
carnival company. The vaudeville
attractions are particularly
pleasing and the moving pictures
are changed nightly.
Of the thousands who visited
i the State fair in Columbia last
week, none was better pleased
perhaps with the exhibits in the
live stock department than Murray
Mack, who was particularly
impressed with the dairy cattle
on exhibition. Mr. Mack noted
a number of milch cows which he
_i ? * *
saia were apparently almost as
good as the best cows in the
famous dairy herds of New York
State, which he inspected last
spring as one of a party of Cornell
agricultural students.
School Closed for the Week.
No sessions of the Fort Mill
graded school have been held
since last Thursday and the
school is closed for all of the
present week, the reason for the
suspension of the exercises being
the failure of the contractors to
install promptly the heating plant
of the building. There has been
some criticism of the board of
trustees for the interruption of
the exercises of the school, the
statement being made that the
classes should not have been
moved from the old building to
the new building until the latter
was completed, but the members
of the board say that the conditions
are due to the remissness
ofjthe contractor, who agreed to
have the heating plant installed
and ready for use several weeks
ago. The exercises of the school
probably will be resumed Monday
morning and if the wishes of;
many patrons are respected there 1
will be no break in the work for
the Thanksgiving holidays.
