Good Word for Mr. McNinch.
While he is a Democrat and is
therefore opposed to a number
: of the principal planks in the
platform of Mr. S. S. McNinch,
Republican candidate for Congress
in the Ninth North Carolina
district, Mr. Fred Nims,
a well known Fort Mill citizen,
Hops not inrlorsp thp nttpmnt to
injure Mr. McNinch's candidacy
by the report that some years
ago he discharged from his
brickyard near Fort Mill a number
of native white laborers and
filled their places with Italians.
Mr. Nims knows the fact3 and
he states that not one white man
lost his job through the employing
of the foreigners. Mr. Nims
also says that it does not lie in
the mouth of certain Fort Mill
Pemocrats to criticise Mr. McNinch
if they appreciate his
public-spiritedness.
"I want to give the public an
instance of Mr. McNinch's publicspiritedness,"
says Mr. Nims in
a communication to The Times.
"When our school bonds were to
be voted on, a matter in which
he had no earthly interest, being
a non-resident, except to go
dov/n in his pocket and pay his
pro rata of the tax (which I am
sorry to say some of our most
prominent Democrats and, to
outward appearances, most public-spirited
citizens, resisted with
their votes) Mr. McNinch said,
to my certain knowledge, 'By all
means issue the bonds and build
the school house. I will cheerfully
pay my pro rata of the tax.'
Don't that sound like the right
kind of metal? Don't we need
more residents like him?"

one of the best men who could
have been chosen for the very
important position.
