Kimbrell has been j sick during the greater part of the last week, but is considered better today. J. R. Haile, Jr., is at home for a few days' stay from Black Mountain, N. C., where he is I spending the summer. Misses Malinda and Leonora Hamilton, of Union, are guests of their sister, Mrs. Osmond Barber, a few miles from town. Mrs. Edw. S. Reaves and i little son and daughter, of Honea Path, are guests af the home of Mrs. Reaves' mother, Mrs. Mary Meacham. J. H. Patterson is assembling the lumber for the erection of a I new home for himself and family on his Booth street lot near the j Presbyterian church. A number of hales of cotton were bought on the local market on Fridav and Saturdav of 1 week, the average price paid | ( being 14 1-2 cents. Among the visitors to Fort Mill Tuesday was Mr. M. R. [ Cora Young, a negress, shot 1 and killed her husband, Charley Young, at Roddeys, in Catawba township, Monday afternoon. , c Young attempted to strike his < wife with a rock and she defend- ( ed herself with a shotgun, the 1 charge taking effect in the heart. , The woman surrendered to Magistrate Beckham in Rock Hill and is in jail. i* The passenger traffic on the t line of the Southern railway from ' Charlotte to Jacksonville does not seem to be affected by the alleged "hard times." The j ( coaches of the passenger trains \ passing through Fort Mill are f often crowded, indicating that |1 many people are not finding it a \ hard task to make tongue and r buckle meet. A. H. Merritt han a very old American penny w hich he has ' carried as a pocket-piece for a ( number of years. The penny * was coined in 1810 and is, there- i fore, 100 years old. It is almost as large as the present-day silver j half dollar and is in good state \ < of preservation. The penny was , [ plowed up in a cotton field by 1 , Mr. Merritt several years ago. 1 ' \ ' ' New Fixtures for Savings Bank. At a recent meeting- of the directors of the Savings Bank of Fort Mill the cashier, W. B. j Meacham, was authorized to spend several hundred dollars in ! the purchase of new furniture j and fixtures for the bank and in otherwise improving the interior of the banking rooms.
