Left $8,000 in Safe.
Clinrlotto Chronicle.
The family of the late Mr. J. .
P. Bailes, who died at his home
near Fort Mill, S. C., a few days
ago, has discovered $8,000 in
gold, whicli he left in the bottom '
of an iron safe in his house, and
about which he had never told
any of them. A part of this |
amount it is stated had been in
the safe for a score or more of
years, since it is known that Mr.
Bailes always saved every piece
of gold which he earned. In addition
to this amount he leaves
on deposit in several banks between
$20,000 and $25,000 in
cash.
Mr. Bailes' estate is valued at i
something: like $10(1,000, most of j
which is in lands. He made a
will a short time before his death
and divided his holdings equally
between his five children.

do not seem to attach importance
to the incident, it being the general
belief that the warnings
were posted by mischievous boys.

Thinks Editor Crist Mistaken.
Editor Times:
1 see in the Yorkville Enquirer
of Sept. 22 an article saying:
"There is a growing feeling
throughout the country that
politicians are losing their control
because of the more intelligent
interest that is being manifested
by the people. It will be
a great day for this country,
when the people really rule, and
rule they will, when every man
undertakes to inform himself and
vote hisown honest convictions."
This sounds good, but Editor
Grist has made a mistake. He
should have said editors instead
of "politicians," for the vote in
the primary clearly shows that
the Enquirer lost five of its pets,
scattered promiscously all over
the political field, from coroner
to United States senator.
