Sunday.

been seriously ill for some days,
is convalescent.

?Mrs. W. S. Patterson, whose
home is one mile south of Fort
Mill, has been dangerously ill for
some days. Her condition yesterday
was reported as slightly
improved.
I?Mr. T. N. Lemmons a few
days ago bought from Capt. S.
E. White a nice residence lot adjoining
that of Mr. A. A. Bradford
on ?ast Booth street. It

Lemmons intends to build.
?Southern freight No. 64 was
wrecked at the 65 mile post,
south of Winnsboro, at 12 o'clock
Soturday, spreading rails being
the cause. Three cars were de-;
molished and the caboose was
burned. Fireman Whitney was
badly hurt.
?The farmers of this section
are considerably behind with
their farming operations. As a
rule at this time of year everything
is in condition for the
early planting of corn, but this
year, with matters so far behind,
there can be no corn planting
for several weeks.
?The season for shooting quail
.. and other game birds in this
(State closed last Saturday. In
this section the season has been
enjoyable to all the sportsmen.
Lots of game has been killed,
but there is plenty left. The
number of non-resident hunters
visiting this section the past
season nas been fewer than for
several years.
? Messrs. Williams & Williams,
of Lancaster, and Mr. E. D.
Rlakeney, of Kershaw, have
been retained to defend Mr.
Grover Welsh, charged with the

M. M. Wole will regret to learn
that he is all but helpless as a
result of ar paralytic stroke which
he suffered some days ago.
Capt. Wolfe, who is living with
his son, Mr. Martin Wolfe in

is a period of six weeks preceeding
the anniversary of the Savior's
death and is set apart as
a season of fasting, penitence
and prayer. It is called Lent because
it comes in the spring of
the year and the old Saxon word
Lent means spring. It corresponds
with the 40 days which the
Savior spent fasting in the
wilderness. The first day ol
