Child Killed by Falling Hocse.
During a storm which passed ]
>ver lower Gold Hill Monday;
uorning at about 1 o'clock the
lome of Mr. E. A. Merritt, near
:he ginhouse of Mr. Chas. Grahim.
was blown down and his
ittle daughter, about 13 years of
_ 1 1 A 1 A 1 1 . 1
ige, was crusnea 10 aeatn oy tne
'ailing timbers. The family were
sleeping soundly and knew noth)f
the approaching storm until
.vith a crash the building came j
lown upon them. Fortunately,
;he other members of the family,
>ne of whom was ill with meases,
escaped serious injury.
Reports from other sections of
lpper Fort Mill told of the des-,
ruction of fences, chimneys and
phone lines, but Mr. Merritt's
'amily were the only ones to suf'e**
personal injuries.
The storm here was not near
so severe as in Gold Hill, al;hough
a number of our peeple
ire reported to have become'
nuch frightened during the few
ninutes which it lasted. The
.vind gained a high velocity and
.here were many hard claps of
;hunder and keen dashes of
ightning. There was also a
ight fall of hail hereabouts, but
10 damage has been reported.
Should Buy Stamps.
Postmaster Massey desires to j
lall attention to the practice of
some patrons of rural delivery
}f placing loose coins in their
ooxes each time they desire to
dispatch letters instead of sup-1
plying themselves with nostatro
n advance of their needs.
This practice imposes undue
hardship on rural carriers in removing:
loose coins from boxes
and delays them on the service ,
)f their routes.
The postmaster, therefore, |
urgently requests that patrons
Df rural delivery provide themselves
and keep on hand a supply
:>f stamps consistent with and in
advance of their needs. It is also
very desirable that rural patrons 1
place in their mail boxes small
detachable cups of wood or tin in
which to place coins, when necessary,
in purchasing supplies of
stamps.
