? Wade Morris Belk, the infant
son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. C.
Belk died Wednesday night of
last week at the home of his parents,
3 miles west of town, after
an illness of several weeks. The
burial was made Thursday afternoon
in the town cemetery, after
services by Rev. W. M. Owings.
? Christmas here was about as
guiet as was ever known, except
for the popping of firecrackers
and the like by the small boy.
All the manufacturing plants
shut down for the holidays and
most of the business houses were
closed Christmas Day. Few people
were on the 8tree, the severe
cold keeping tnem in doors, and
the general appearance of things
was more like Sunday than
Christmas.
? The Timee continues to hear
of prise hogs that have been
killed in this communitv durincr
the past few weeks. The latest,
and probably the largest, was
that of Mr. J. H. McMurray,
which weighed 604 pounds. Mr.
J. M. Bickett, of Pleasant Valley,
is also entitled especial mention,
having a few days ago slaughtered
a 17-montha-old hog that
netted him 460 pounds.
r- Rev. W. M. Owings, the new
pastor of the Fort Mill, Philadelphia
and Pleasant Hill churches,
preached an eloquent and instructive
sermon from the Methodist
church here Sunday. A
large congregation were out to
hear Mr. Owings and all were
highly pleased with his sermon.
