report of damage done by
the excessive rainfall of the pust

since the August storui of 1S1KI have
si reams in this section been as high as
now. t'hnreh branch bridge that
cleared the water during the heavy
rains of the past few years, has some
id' its sills washed out. and is impassable.
Mr. S. \Y. Watlield is there
with a force of hands trying to repair
it. Spring branch, near Mr. .1. B.
Warren's on the Story road, has float- |

travel from that direction. For ID
years the writer lias been a close observer
of tbe weather at this place,
and in all that time lias never seen so
much water oi. the land at one lime
with the possible exception of the
l!>l):t storm. And it has all fallen
since Tuesday morning:. Fridav after
noon between 4 ami "? o'clock it seemed
as it' tlie deluge had come. In IfO
minutes, tlit* already full streams, liad
increased in height between -i\ inches
and a fool, covering land marks that
were never lie lore seen under wrster.
For a level country like
this it means a rise of
It) to "JO feet in the hilly sections.
And it rained until S oYlcok Saturday
morning, with almost no intermissions.
When any plowing can he
done even <>n the highest lands, it is
impossible to predict, and bottoms will
he too wet t< plow for at least two
weeks. Later: Church branch
bridge is down and cannot be repaired
until the water subsides.

Darlington, Special. The outgoing
passenger train from Darlington to
Hartsviile was wrecked in the yards
here Sunday at !l o'clock. The entire
train was detailed although no part
of it was overturned. The cause of
the wreck was a half turned switch at
the "V," and there is evidence that
the switch had been tampered with.
A wrecking train was sent up form
Florence and a special train was used
to convey the passengers to Hartsville.
None of the 1*0 passengers suf
