The Rock Hill Record learns
that there is a probability of Col.
Spring's and family moving away
from Lancaster, and opens wide
the gates of its city to this most
valuable citizen. In view of Col.
Springs many interests in Fort
Mill and tnis township, and the
fact that we still claim him as a
Fort Mill man, we hope that his
removal, if made, will be back
to this place. A hearty welcome
awaits the colonel and his excellent
family upon their return.
Just why some one wanted to
return for taxation more real
estate than lie actually owned
cannot be said, but. according to
a table published in the Yorkville
Enquirer of Friday, there is
nearly one thousand more acres
of Fort Mill land on the tax
books than really exists. The
figures given are that there has
been returned 33,1*25 acres while
as a matter of fact the actual
area is 32,21(>. It is thus aj>p;u*ent
that Fort Mill people will
pav rent on HOP acres of

sight
Reports from the Charlotte
Rrick Go's plant two miles south
m of town say that the management
of the big enterprise are
highly pleased with the manner
in which the number of foreign
E immigrants perform their work.
The men are a sturdy set and
turn off much more work than
iwas expected considering the fact
that they were completely ignorant
of this class of work upon
their arrival here. There is only
one of the men who speaks
English lluently but as he acts
K? interpreter to the others, there
has been little difficulty in
making known to the party
I each man's duty and how to
perform his work. The brick
company is doing all in its pov\ :*r
to make the men comfortable
and contented. They are paid
good wages, given comfortable
quarters in which to live and
seem to be pleased with their
work and surroundings, fastening
