Hoover, who had been in failing health for several yours, died Tuesday morning of last week at his home in this j laee. Mr. H jover was 73 years of age and is survived by*a wife and several sons and daughters. The burial was made Wednesday at Flint Hill Church. Ed. Williams, n negro, was committed to York jail Monday by Magistrate MeCllmney upon the charge of having stole a gun from another negro in this township. Williams was a nest e I in Roe I; Hill and it was thought that porha pa Lo was connected with the attempted assault on the Gold Hill young lady, but when carried before her, proved to be the wrong man. Williams liuishod a term on the Yolk gang only a few weeks ago. The 2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Airs. Chan, ilummou met with a horrible accident Wednesd .y afternoon which resulted in the death of tho child an hour later. The family was preparing to move to Rock Hill ami in packing up, Airs. Hammonds threw an old hottie into the yard, not knowing that it contained carbolic acid. The child was playing in the yard and found the bottle and drank the contents, about one ounce of the acid. A number of physicians did all in their power to relievo the child, but iu vain, and the littie one died of convulsions an hour later. Mr. James Johnston, of Clinrlotte, with a fovoe of laborers, is en^aijed in laying a portion of tin* main street pavenientsof this place in cement. The stretch of cement will extend f:?>in the corner of the Bank to the Massey corner on the north side and perhaps an equal amount will lie put down on the south side of tlm street, though the latter has not been definitely decided upon. The work is bein^ done jointly by the town andpiopeity owners and will lie a decided improveun-nt to Main rtreet. Inspectors Reports. Dispensary inspectors hereafter according to hio order issued by Commissioner Tatnm a short time ngo, must be prepared to swear to the accuracy of their report on each dispeioary checked up. Thin order is the result of the discovery that many shortages occur by the use of dummies or half empty casos that have been checked by the inspectors as full cases. Mr. Tatum stated that after the shortage in Charleston and a recent one in the upper part, of the State lie was convinced that the inspections heretofore have been too perfunctory. lie discovered that cnses supposed to be full contained only one-half the number of bottles or be entirely empty. This, it is said, happened sometime ago With a dispenser in Fairfield county.
