York county has lost another of
her landmarks. Maj. James F.
Hart, whose illness had for several 1
weeks been a matter of mm-h eon- I
corn throughout this t-eetion, died t
Thursday afternoon at 3:20o'cloek
at his homo in Yorkville. The
burial took place in Yorkville 1
Friday afternoon, under the l

Major Hart, as we learn from :
The Enquirer, was born in Union
county on February 13, 1835. He'
attended the common schools of
the county during his boyhood and I
in 1851 went to the ? itmlel, graduating
from thai institution in j
1857. lie entered the Coiifeder- |
ate service in JS4?8 bh a lieutenant |
of the Washington Light Infantry, !
and sliortly afterward became captain
of that company. Later he
was transferred to Hampton's
cavalry corps, and became a major
of horse artillery, known as Hart's
battery, losing a leg at Bn r^cKSK
mill in 18r,|. He came to Yorkville :
to practice law in 18f>8, and lias :
since that time been identified
with all that has made for the pro j
gret>s of the town and county,
socially, politically, educationally ;
or otherwise. No other citizen of
the county lias been more active j
among his fellows for a lpnger
