Kimbrell returned Monday to his home in upper Fort Mill, after an absence of several months, spent with relatives in Ar- j kansas and other Western States. After a dry spell of several weeks i this section was visited Saturday! by a heavy rain, almost amounting ; to astorin. The olcetric display was grand and in a number of places about town largo trees were dam aged by the lightning. t Messrs. Z. Y. Bradford and W. A. Fisher, contractors, have begun ] work on three ?-100111 cottages to j the west of the railroad near the Millfort Mill. The cottages r.re ' being built for M r. L. .V. B week's Times, was given a hearing B before Magistrate MoElhaney last J^k Wednesday. The evidence brought ^B out was such as to warrant a court trial and Mr. 15elk was bound over ^B in the sum of $200. Tlic entire plant of the Fort MB Mill Mfg. Company is now beint~ driven by electricity, the last cf 3^B the motors, that in the spinning room, having been started up Sat ^B^B urday morning. The force of electricians are now engaged at. the Millfort mill and it is said will finish work there this week. The Times has no desire to bore vits readers with items concerning the new passenger station, but f ueling so jubilant over the fact that the town is soon to have this much ncdcd improvement, will say that the construction work is progressing favorably and when the building is completed, two weeks hence, it will be a "peach." The contractors of the town are being much annoyed and delayed with their work by the scarcity of carpenters to be had. There is ns much if not more building going on in town fit present tunn ior some time, 'out the work is not progressing as rapidly as is dosired for the abovo reason. Congressman Fin ley, who ia always on the alert in looking to the interests cf the district which he represents, lias succeeded in onlisting the interests of the department of tlio interior in the minerals of this section, and has been promised that during the present summer a preliminary examination of the mineral rlepoaita of York, Lancaster, Chester and Charokee counties will be made. Messrs J. W MeElhaney, R. F. Grier and 8. W. Parks hav< been appointed to appraise the stock of goods, real estate, etc., of Mr. W. E. i Griffin, who, on account of adverse business trrinsaotions has found it necessary to surrender his holdings < to his creditors. Mr. Grittih has engaged in business for many years at n point two miles north 'of Fort Mill, and his friends throughout this section will regret to learn that he lias failed. Gen, Frost, announces that practically all arrangements have been completed with the war department fur the State encampment at Columbia next month, and ! the formal order will he issued in 'a few days. The tirst troops to go 1 to Columbia will be the 3d rogij ment, on duly 5 followed by the ; 2d regiment on July 14, the 1st : regiment on duly '2d and the cav airy on August 2. Notwithstanding that the big picnic was held duly 8th last year 1 on the graded school grounds, at which a resolution was passed to hold a picnic there annually, the I reporter has not up to this timo ! heard any talk of such a gathering this year. The picnic last year proved to be one of the most enjoyable occasions of the season, and it is to he hoped that the people will soon get together r and arrungo for a like gathering.
