White of this township, will be pleased to know that he is recovering from a very severe illness of typhoid fever at his newly adopted home near Frederick, Md. The streets Saturday presented a very crowded condition, for they were crowded with people of this and surrounding sections, in town tor their customary week-end trading. Merchants report trade as being exceptionally good. Cotton is being brdught to marhat quite freely now and the farmers atrf receiving a good price for t heir staple. The outlook for husiness this fall is very good, and the merchants are laying in large stocks of merchandise. Mr. Pharr Snead, an employe of the Fort Mi'.l Mfg. Co., was married Sunday evening to Miss Pearl Robinson, of Pineville. The marriage was performed by 'Squire W. O. liailes, at litfl home in the upper part of the township. Spinks, in the village of the Fort Mill Mfg Co. Mr. ami Mre.G. L. Wren, of Gunnison, Miss., after several days visit to relatives in this section, left yesterday morning for Gastouia, N. C., where they will also visit relatives for a few days before returning to their Mississppi home. We hear that a number of our citizens are corsidering the advisability of opening a steam laundry in Fort Mill. Surli an enterprise would hardly pay in a town of this size and the promoters had better investigate the matter thoroughly before investing their money. A report reached town Sunday afternoon that Luin Jennings, colored had been shot by another negro on the plantation of Mr. V. H. Blankenship, 3 miles north of Fort. Mill. We were unable to lenrn the circumstances or the name of the negro who did the shooting. The bdl took effect in Jennings right leg. The regular fall examination of applicants for the position of teachers was held Friday in the COUrt house, at Yniltvilln mirlur the supervision of county supeiintendent of education, John E. Carroll. There were fourteen ladies and four gentlemen who stood the examinations. About 20 negro applicants stood the examination in the colored school building. The Times was in error last week as to the recent ruling of the post office depai tnieut concerning Philippine mail.
