A Fort Mill man tells us of a
joke on the town of Piueyflle. He
says that on a recent visit there he
inquired the population of the

Section Foreman Warren is very 1
anxious to ascertain the name of

one of the nice young sh^de trees 1

?t was with sorpe misgivings that
Capt. Spratt assembled his company
in the armory preparatory to
the inspection, which for the tirat
time was to be witnessed in an official
capacity by a representative
of the Federal government, Col.
&b?rris, U. fcj. A., well as by Adjutant
and Inspector General John
p. Frost, in behalf of the Mtate.
At 3 o'clock the company, 47
strong, under the command of
Capt. Sprajtl and dressed in their
peip khaki piriforms, marched to

the cciupauy was turned over to

put the company through the manual
and $ejd movements. Capt.
Spratt gave the comniands in a
plear, soldier-like voice and only
once during the inspection did the
company fnij to respond promptly
and precisely to his commands.
This immaterial error was due to
tfye inattention of one gf the noncommissioned
gfficers and momentarily
confused the cgmpany.
The inspection was satisfactory
to both the Federal and State representative
upd was gratifying in
the extreme to the otticers of the
company, who had worked hard
and faithffilly to the end that the
inspection mjght be creditable.
In a short speech Col. Morris
congratulated the cgmpany in flat
lermg terms over ujeir soldierly
appearance and expresjed the hope
that paclf mepitjer wpuld display
keen interest in the prganization
and endeavor fo make it one of the
most eilici0t}? companies in the
State.
Gen, Frost also spojte in complimeijtary

and explained that the much discussed
pick militia bill passed at
the last sessipn of Congress di ifered
in none of its essential features to
the militia la^vs which have been
on the Federal statute books since

The Fqrt Mill Light Infantry is
