Caugt the Farmers Napping. <
A slick-tongue fakir toi?k bin
stand on Main street Saturday i
and worked a number of farmers >
to a Qneen.s taste. Ho was doubt- ,
iess a past professional in his line,
as his outburst of eloquence was
something notable. The farmers
were held spell-bound, rivited to
the spot, while the fakir told of
the wonderful curative power of
his "electric" belts, which were
nothing more than the bunching
together of a lot of chenp cotton
flannel and small tin plates. He
finally branched otf on tne Civil
war, telling of his father and what

and when he offered the so-called
electric bells at one dollar each,
the wool hat boys almost tumbled
over each other in tossing over j
the lovely simoleons. The swindler
bewail the sale by disposing
of a few belts and refunding the
price, along with an additional
dollar. Now this just simply took
them off their feet, as the saying
goes, and one was heard to remark
that it was ''just like get ting mom y
from home." Hut this proceeding
lasted for the space of only a few
minutes, for the fakir was now
taking in the silver bucks by the
wholesale, and wrapping each dollar
in a paper bill, deposited tln-m
on a box in plain view of the
crowd. It was useless for one to
refuse to buy, for when Mr. Swindler
informed him that he would
make him wish ho had bought,
his neighbor over the way was up
and doing. Each purchaser was
promised a present and each got
one?a small box of corn salve.
The next feature of tho entertainment
was the introduction of the,
talkingdummy, which was new to
some of the crowd and much enjoytd.
Hut the fakir was tiring
of his audience, and upon his
failure to sell a larger sized bo't at
$2, he thanked the crowd for their !
