A Prosperous Lancaster Negro.
There is n colored man living
near Lancaster, Mack Blackmond,
who is a striking exception to the
general rule. Muck started to farm
by himself just twenty yours ago
without a dollar in the world. Today
he owns three plantations,
owes no innu a dollar and has
money at interest. His success is
due to hard work, well directed,
close economy and fair dealing
with his neighbors, both white
nnd black.
Mack lias all of his lands rented
except a two-horse farm which he
himself works. That he is a tine
farmer is shown by his crop of
last year. He made on his own
farm 2.'1 bales of cotton, over 500
bushels of corn, 100 bushels of potatoes,
a large quantiiy of molasses
nnd a line crop of small grain. He
now has on hand several hundred
gallons of mo lassos, but much of
this was made by a public cane
nr.!*. winch lit' runs. He also hap
1,'JOC pounds of pork snlted down
and .has more hogs to kill. He
has not sold a bale of his last crop
of cotton. Not needing the money
he in holding his cotton for higher
prices. During had weather
when his mules cannot be employed
on the farm, Mack hauls
wood to maaket. He has already
sold thus far this season 120
cards.? Lancaster cor. News and
