A number of people here are
contemplating some big sport when
the Catawba dam is completed and
I the water shut off, which will take!
place about next July, if present
plans are carried out. There is no '
telling just exactly how long it 1
will take for the backwater to overflow
the dam, but the river below
will go practically dry and the Mali
will be confined to the deep holes |
and it ia thought some very profit*
able Reigning will be possible.
The election for ititeoctant and
four wardens will bo held Tuesday
of next week. For several years
very little interest has been taken
in municipal elections and the fact
that only 46 voters have registered
shows that the coining election
will he as quiet as heretofore.
Canidates for the places have not
I yet announced themselves, and
J when they do, it is likely that the

There are a number of persons'
in this section who arc evidently
hunting trouble, for every now

from a wound which tin* latter had

Mr. Faris was cutting wood near
his home, when in some way the
axe slipped and struck his foot,
splitting it open for about three
incher. The*\vound bled profust'dy
and Mr. Faris was weuk and faint
ino when the physician arrived.
The bleeding was soon cheeked,
however, and it is thought that the
unfortunate accident will not re
suit iu other than a very sore foot
for the next few weeks.
Undoubtedly the road between
Tirznli church and the river bridge
is one of worst in the county.
That is what most, of the travelers
to Yorkville from Fort Mill township
say, and the writer, having 1
traveled over it recently, is of the'
opinion that there is more lirst class
brick material, already worked np
to proper temper for molding, than
in any similar stretch of country
in the United States. There is a
lot of travel over that road now
and it is a pity soinethingt can't be
done to better it.?York ft lie Yeo- |

Give the Rural Carriers Good Roads.
The follow inj? circular recently
issued from the ollice of the firs'
| assistant postmaster general is of
especial interest to the patrons of
' thi- various rural tree delivery
routes:
1. The department looks to the
patrons of the rural free delivery
service, who are receiving the hem -
tils of tIn* service, to use their tit
must personally endeavors, and al.-o
to exert, their influence with the
road si]pi rvistirs, or with those
oiiicinlH who art- ivsponcibh* fur the
coiiditiihi of the highways. In the
< mi that tiie loads traveled l?y the
rural carriers may lie always kept
open and such passable shape lliat
the service can bo re^ulary and
pnnetually perfi>1111 ?d.
2. Should the regularity of the
Service lie needlessly destroyed as
the result of inattention and lack
of care bestowed on the highways,
the permanent withdrawal of the
delivery will very likely result.
Rural letter carriers are required
to serve their routes at all
seas his of the year and in all kinds
of weather when it can be done
without seriously imperiling their
lives ot endanjii ine their convey
anees or the I niled Stales mail
which is in their enstodny,
4. I'at ions should clear away the
snow <li ft. so that carriers ran drive
nptoand reach boxes from their
vehicles without dismounting.
">. It is not a pint of the carrier's
duty to break out the roads after a
severe snow stoi in.
C>. Rural carriers arc expected to
cnt'i'm ticiiIly try to .serve tln-ir
routes even though the o>in111 ioiis
may he extremely adverse, and any
undue lack of zeal on their part
should lie promptly brought to the
intention of this olliee for such action
as the merits of tin; case required.
