Hi? Germ-Proof Cup.
"I am one of thoHe persons who
cannot pass a water cooler without
getting thirsty," said a business man
the other (lay, "yet I abhor the public
drinking cup, and my draught of
Ice-cold water is spoiled for me by
the thought of the germs from other
lips which cling to its edges.
"But I got an idea the other day
irom a ramer lasuuious composer,
who will not so murh as touch a public
dri&klng cup. Wo were walking
In Central Patk when we came to a
drinking fountain. He took a writing
, pad out of his pocket, toro offra sheet
of paper, folded over alout two and
a half inches in one corn'of, and twirled
the sheet into a neat cornucopia,
with the folded p^# at thp tap. bent
the point over tightly, and, filling tho
cornucopia with water, offered mo
a drink free from tho bacilli of tho
public drinking cup.
"A little experimenting at homo
mode me proficient in the manipulating
of theso germ-proof cups, and
now I carry a pad of notepaper in my
hip pocket and can approach a fountain
or. a water cooler without fear of
the rpyyns that lurk in the di^ty and
much used public drinking cups."?

Preparation of the floor is the most
expensive item. The Ice is formed on
a floor of special fclt-covered boards
laid in prepared asphalt. Underneath,
in a filling of ground cork, run the
pipes conveying the refrigerating
brine.
The p!p"s are usually laid only three
inches apart. Though the buildings
ran be heated by steam to a temperature
of 40 degrees or thereabouts the
surface cf the ice can be kept hard at
all times by the frosty brine undcrueath.
The Brooklyn rink represents an In
vestment of $03,000 and has been a
paying enterprise from the beginning.
I^ast year the stockholders received 10
per cent.
The Pittsburg rink, which is on a
larger scale, represents an Investment j
of 5300,000. It was built four years ago
and has never pnVrt less than 11 per
cent. The two other rii*k3 are proportionately
profitable.
