of his paper that we were
wrong in staling last week that
there are ninety cases of smallpox
in that town, and says there are
only s:x cases. We are sorry,
brother, that we were wrongly infoiuied
and beg your pardon for
so stating. However, we are glad
o know that there are so few cases
over there and hope that they will
soon recover and the city be free
from the disease.

A Joke on Congressman Lever,
The Washington correspondent

the following funny joke on Congressman
Lever: "Representative
Lever of South Carolina is next to

but lie would have no trouble in
passing for twenty, if he wished to

happened when Mr. Lover first
took his seat, The house official,
who giveH notice to those not entitled
to the privilege of the floor
to get out just bofore the opening
of the sessions, had noticed a boyish-looking
fellow for several days
who didn't pay the slightest atten

approached Amos C-umminga
remarking in a nettled tone, "If
that hoy don't get out of hero before
12 o'clock I'll throw him out.''
"What boy?" asked Mr. Cummiiigs.
"Sitting over there," replied the
official, pointing to Mr. Lever. "1
wouldn't throw him out," said
Cumminings. "Why not?" "Because
you might lose your job.
He is a mmeber of the house."

likely.'' We do not believe that
