Mr. J. F. Gossett has resigned
the snperi'itendency of the Fort
Mill Mfg. Company and lias gone
to Moultrie, Gu., to accept a position
with a cot ton mill in that town.
Mr. J. E. Reeves has returned to
Fort Mill and is again employed as
engineer at the upper mill. Since
Mr. Reeves 1? ft this plaee two years
ago he has held a similar pesition
in Charlotte. '
Mis. J. S. Meachatn died at the
upper mill in this place Saturday
afternoon ami was buried in the
Fort Mill cemetery Sunday. Mrs. ,
Meachatn was a sister of Mr. M. .1.
Adcock and was about III) years old.
At the election held in Fort Mill
Monday for a warden to lilt the vacancy
caused by the resignation of
Dr. 'J' S. Kirpatriek, Mr. \V. 11.
Moacham was the successful candidate.

Representative J. It. llaile returned
from Columbia Saturday,
the Legislature having adjourned
on that day. Mr. llaile is the only
member of the York delegation
who voted to censure Senator MeLaurin
for his course in the United
States Senate.
"Why Two Merry Dutchmen Left
Home," a fnrce comedy, was proseated
to a small audience in the
town hall last evening by Stinkard's
Comedy Company. The best
feature of the entertainment was
the dancing of Clnis. A. Wiko.

At the meeting of the Southern
Cotton Spinners' Association held
in Charlotte Saturday, when it was
decided to curtail the yarn production
of the mills in the association,
the Fort Mill Mfg. Company was
represented by Col. Leroy Springs.

whether the Millfort mill was represented
at the meeting.
M rs. Mary Heath, who lives withl
her daughter, Mrs. Amanda Belf^
in this place, was years old yes-1
terday. A nnmber of Mrs. Heath's 1
children and grandchildren came
down from Charlotte and Monroe
yesterday morning and spent the
anniversary with Iter, as is their
custom every year. .Mrs. Heath is
in remarkably good health for one
who has lived almost a century.
The interests of Mr. 13. I). Springs
will be materially atTected by the
net of the Legislature prohibiting
the superintendent, of the peniten- :
t tiary from hiring convicts for farm- ,
ing purposes tifter this year. For
four years Mr. Springs has worked
on his plantation in this township
front twenty to twenty-five convicts,
and he has found their labor
a great deal more satisfactory than
that of day hands. The convicts
have been humanely treated it all
times and have been well fed and
