Capitol, where It passed him in review.
At the head of the parade rode Lleutenant-General
Miles. The military
forces included artillery, cavalry, marines
and sailors. The Fifth Cavalry
acted as the Immediate escort of the
President.
They were assembled along the north
curb of Pennsylvania avenue, fronting
the White House, ami as the President
appeared the cavalry salute was giv
en. ami the troopers wheeled in column
of platoons and swept down the
avenues. With the President wore
members of his Cabinet, in carriages.
Then came lite National Guard of the
District of Columbia.
Vicing with the presidential party m
the interest excited was the procession
of Governors with staffs ami military
escorts. The Governors marched in
the order of the admission of States
to the fnion Following them came
the Grand Army. Spanish war veterans.
Old Guards and guests.
The parade moved down Pennsylvania
avenue, and as it reached the
Capitol it swung northward to C sire
and Delaware avenue to the broad
plaza on the east front. The on fringe
