An indication of some of the important
industrial effects which may bo
expected to follow the opening up of
China, is given in recent reports concerning
tin' Chinese tree called the "tu
cluing." Both r rench and English
botanists assert that this tree contains
a valuable substance resembling rubber.
or gutta-percha. Mr. Weiss, of
Owens College, believes that the substance
is a true caoutchouc, and that
the tree will become of great economic
importance.
