Frankfort, Ky., Special.?The praliniinory examination of Secretary of State Caleb Powers, charged with abetting ;he assassination of William Gocfrcl. began Friday before Judge Moore, ' lie court was guarded inside and out with militia and scores of deputy sheriffs. armed with Winchester rilles, to prevent possible 'interference from "mountaineers," who were reported on j their way to Frankfort, but their presence was unnecessary, as the mountaineers failed to appear and no disorder 'occurred. The Commonwealth', witnesses wore called, numbering 10. Golden was not in the list.
