Elliott, W. B. Stackhouse, Jno. C. Bethea and A. C. Rogers attetnded Ihe races at Winston-Salem this week. They made the trip through the country. W. Murchison, L. A. Tatum, T. W. Bethea, Walker Floyd and A. B. Jorrlan spent several days last week at Murrel'8 Inlet and caught quite a big lot of fish. Col. R. L. Carmichael, chief of finance in the war department, spent i few hours in town Tuesday while on his way to Fork where he will spend a few days with relatives. Judge Puerifoy, who is to preside at the common pleas court next week will be detained in Columbia next Monday and court will not open till Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. His ad. appears elsewhere in e this issue. 5 Mrs. Saialt June Moody. i t After an illness of little more than s a week Mrs. Sarah Jane Moody, wife s of Mr. It. J. Moody, passed away at ? her home on East Main street Thurs- T day afternoon. At her bedside when i the end came were all the members 1 of the family, the out of town mem- ' bers having been summoned when it was seen several days before that the c end was near. r Mrs. Moody was born near Dothan * in 1850 and was in her 71st year. ' She was the daughter of the late Keuben Jackson. In 1877 she was r married to Mr. It. J. Moody and ' moved to her husband's place near p the Zion section of the county where 0 she resided for many years and raised n a family of sons and daughters. About 11 ten years ago she and Mr. Moody l< t the old home place and moved to Dil- * uii ?m-ic am? cuuuuuea 10 resiae un- ' till claimed by death last Thursday. ^ Mrs. Moody was a consistent member of the Methodist church, having unit- 1 ed with that church early in life, and ' until seized with the infirmities of f age she was a regular attendant and 1 did ber part in the work of the Mas- ' ter. Besides her husband Mrs. Moody is A survived by the following children: ^ R. L. Moody. Jack O. Moody. O. F. Moody, Mrs. J. F. Dail, F. O. Mood> all of Dillon and Prof. Reuben Moody, who is engaged in teaching in Vir- i ginia. The funeral was held Friday after- < noon, the interment being made at Mt < Holly Cemetery. Later in the afternooii the tide of his face began to swell and by donday he was sufferittg intensely. V. physician was called and he realize^ it once that Mr. Harrelson was in a prions condition. Quick preparations| vere made to take Mr. Harrelson to, i hospital and he was brought to; lillon immediately. While waiting fori he southbound train -it the Coast! .ine station Mr. Harrelson's condi-j ion grew worse so rati1 II v itini ?K?. ending physicians knew the end was lily a matter of a few moments and hree minutes before the train arrivd he passed away. Anthrax is a disease which is very are in this country. It is a European [isease, but has made its appearance ;i America since the war. but only o a limited extent. It is a gertn diease and very fatal. It has all the yniptoms of a carbunkle. but processes more rapidly. It is accompanied by high fevers and is followed n a few hours by general collapse, low and when Mr. Harrelson conracted the disease is not known. It s an infectious disease and can be ontracted front a shaving brush improperly sterilized at the time of tnanifacture or other bristles that come n contact with the skinMr. Harrelson was one of the best itizens of his community and his unimely death is gre:.tly dpplored by 11 who knew hint. He was a qbiet. ourteous and unassuming man who ttended strictly to his own affairs ittd proposed He owned a splendid place three miles beyond the Stone Iridge 011 the Dillon-Hake View road vhich he managed with thrift and inlustry.
