Mr. H. B. Shaw, who has been hold
ni; the position of bookkeeper at the
Dillon Mills, has tendered his resig
in. t ion and with his family will re:urn
in the next few days to Wiltningion
where he will resume his former

The Kedpath Chautauqua closed
Monday night after u successful week
n Dillon. The attractions were of a
tery high order and were greatly enjoyed.
The attendance, while not us
large as last year, came up to the
jxpectations of the guarantors and a
contract was signed for a return engagement
next springMr.
W. A. Blizzard has returned
from Asheville, N. C., where he held
i successful demonstration or uetroii
vapor stoves. Mr. Blizzard says yo<
do not hear the cry of hard times in
Asheville. Asheville is not a cotton
country and the people seem to have
plenty of money. Business is going
along the same as usual and money
Is plentiful.
The Woman's Club was entertained
on Monday evening by Mrs. D. A.
McCallum. The reception hall, pailor
and dining room were most artistically
decorated. Delightful punch was
served throughout the evening. Dorothy
Perkins and sweet peas combined
with ferns and other cut flowers
made an attractive setting for the
lovely affair. Five card tables were
arranged for the players and several
spirited games were enjoyed. Tea
napkins were then passed and thr
hostess assisted by Misses Richard*
and Rast and Mis? Flora Hamer served
ice rream. fruit and pound cake
Dainty little blue bird baskets filled
with white nun's were the favors foi
the evening. The invited guests wen

Mr. P. C. Smith, of Nashville, Ga.
was in town Monday on his wa>
homo aftor spending sovoral days
with his father. Mr. H. D. Smith
near L/nke View. Mr. Smith who is in
dustrial agent for a Georgia railroad
lives in the heart of the boll weevi
section of Georgia and has made t
first-hand study of conditions in hi!
section. He says cotton planting hai
been practically abandoned in his
section and the farmers are devoting
Heir time to growing food crops anc
raising hogs. Those who attempt cot
ton planting make about a bale tf
every five or six acres, which oi
course, is not profitable. The bol
weevil has been in his section thre<
years, but he says the farmers ap
pear to be in better financial con
dition than fanners in cotton grow
ing sections. Mr. Smith says the bol
weevil will be in Dillon in the nc\*<
year or two, but after the farmers ge
used to changed conditions they wil
bc in better shape financially. H<
