The Kedpath Chautauqua closed Monday night after u successful week n Dillon. The attractions were of a tery high order and were greatly enjoyed. The attendance, while not us large as last year, came up to the jxpectations of the guarantors and a contract was signed for a return engagement next springMr. W. A. Blizzard has returned from Asheville, N. C., where he held i successful demonstration or uetroii vapor stoves. Mr. Blizzard says yo< do not hear the cry of hard times in Asheville. Asheville is not a cotton country and the people seem to have plenty of money. Business is going along the same as usual and money Is plentiful. The Woman's Club was entertained on Monday evening by Mrs. D. A. McCallum. The reception hall, pailor and dining room were most artistically decorated. Delightful punch was served throughout the evening. Dorothy Perkins and sweet peas combined with ferns and other cut flowers made an attractive setting for the lovely affair. Five card tables were arranged for the players and several spirited games were enjoyed. Tea napkins were then passed and thr hostess assisted by Misses Richard* and Rast and Mis? Flora Hamer served ice rream. fruit and pound cake Dainty little blue bird baskets filled with white nun's were the favors foi the evening. The invited guests wen Mrs. R. P. Hamer. Mrs. R M. Bailey, Mrs. T.. L. Watson. Miss Vieve Hug gins. Miss Flora Hamer and Mrs. J M Rogers. Mr. P. C. Smith, of Nashville, Ga. was in town Monday on his wa> homo aftor spending sovoral days with his father. Mr. H. D. Smith near L/nke View. Mr. Smith who is in dustrial agent for a Georgia railroad lives in the heart of the boll weevi section of Georgia and has made t first-hand study of conditions in hi! section. He says cotton planting hai been practically abandoned in his section and the farmers are devoting Heir time to growing food crops anc raising hogs. Those who attempt cot ton planting make about a bale tf every five or six acres, which oi course, is not profitable. The bol weevil has been in his section thre< years, but he says the farmers ap pear to be in better financial con dition than fanners in cotton grow ing sections. Mr. Smith says the bol weevil will be in Dillon in the nc\*< year or two, but after the farmers ge used to changed conditions they wil bc in better shape financially.
