;S?seral cargo, in less than twenty- j
Co?r hours, is the record achieved by \
the steamship Saecaranna. which -
came into port Saturday.
The Saccarappa arrived at 1
o'clock Saturday* afternoon and was
proceeding to sea Sunday afternoon,
at IS.30 o'clock. This is conceded to'
have been somewhat of a feat by men
in shipping circles, and the officers
of the Carolina Company which handled
the vessel and furnished the
cargo are prou^ of the record made.
The cargo is lor export to Bremen

many ships which the Carolina Company
will hav^ sailing from this port
to handle a large volume of business
which they have worked up.

SOUTH DOOMED TO DISASTER.
The Memphis Cotton Acreage Committee
has issued the following letter:
Cotton "has declined in value until
vnere is a toss or more than 51.000,- (
000.006 on the 19 20 crop. Cotton, the <
South's chief commodity has ceased .
to be a cash article. Quoted values
are far below the cost of production.
There is little demand for cotton at (
prices even below quotations. The ^
prospects for increased production ]
arc not hopeful. There is now enough (
cotton to last nearly two years at (
the pre-war normal rate of consump- .
tion. I
English spindles are operating only
twenty-four hours a week. Domestic ,
consumption is far below normal. In
