Nine Men Finally Reach Land.
| Wilmington, N. C.. May 3.?A
[thrilling tale of shipwreck and subsequent
battle for life in open boats
was recited today by nine members
of the crew of the American steam
tub Admiral, which went down 22
miles off Topsail inlet early Saturday
morning. These nine men came to
Wilmington by train after having
been picked up by flsher men ofT Topsail
and taken to Edgecomb
The men continued their Journey
tonight for their home station at

of the Admiral, the crew battled

boat had pushed off. One of the
boats was dashed to pieces In attempting
to make a landing.
The Admiral, a sea going tug of 89

put in at Norfolk and then proceeded
through the inland waterway passing

Sunday. After reaching the open sea
the litle craft ran into a stiff southwest
wind with rolling seas.
The steam pipe leading to the whistle
was broken and all the steam in
the boilers escaped.
Her anginas dead the little ship
rocked at the mercy of the waves, until
her seams crocked and she began
to fill with water.
Captain Day then ordered his men
into the life boats. Five minutes later
the Admiral turned stern Into the
air and sank beneath the waves.
