Obituary sketches, cards of thanks,
communications espousing the cause
of a private enterprise or a political
candidate and like matter will be
charged at the rate of 8 cents pei
line. Contract advertisers will no1
be allowed to exceed their space at
same rates or advertise anything
foreign to their regular business
without extra charge. Advertisements
to occupy special place will be
charged for according to position desired.

important news, or discuss politely
and properly subjects of real

The pros and cons of the addition
al war taxes are not worrying the
business men of the country to anj
extent, according to reports from
their organizations. 'They have no)
protested against a revenue bill at
this session. To the contrary the
managers of a large number of business
concerns have indicated thej
prefer to have legislation enacted al
this session. These men point out
that it will be advantageous to business
to know as early as possible
what (he new taxes, payable next
year, will amount to, and it must be
admitted their position is well taken.
That cite opposition to a war revenue
law is mostly due to political
considerations is the general belief.
Members' of congress, and particularly
members of the upper House who
will be up for re-election think the
passage of u revenue bill on the eve
of the congressional elections may
hurt those congressmen who vol
for the measure, either republican
or democrat.
