This old town, perhaps, is no exception
to many more in this "land
of the tree and home of the brave,"

We notice that the Solons that constituted
the last session of the South
Carolina legislature arraigned the
poor old turkey bussard before that
August body on a charge of hog
murder. Well, it does look like one
or two in that bunch of wisdom had
lived prior to the time the first imported
hogs and shanghl chickens
came to this country and also remember
that neither hog or chicken
cholera was known or heard of, and
further remember that the bustard
family exceeded the^present one-hundred
to one. All the persecution of
the poor old Innocent bussard has
been brought about by a peculiar
species of the human family known

from any fatal disease and
how nice in him in refusing to sign
the death sentence of the bussard,
with no evidence to convict, save
whet some so called scientists
trumped up against God's special
Scavenger, created by Him for that
purpose. Let him live.

ference with Secretary Baker, and '

Carolina would be called upon to fur"
niah not more than 5,000 men for se- j
lective draft service between now j
and September 1. The plan is to i
call the men in small increments, a
small quota each month.
Gov. Manning also stated that a
bill is now pending in Congress
which seems to be gaining favor,
which would authorise the granting
of furloughs to those doing necessary i
farm labor.
