Mlchaux went down to Charleston Tuesday on professional < business. Miss Connie Berry, of Latta, spent the week end as the guest of Miss Fodie Watson. Mrs. D. V. Hamilton . left last week for Charleston, where she goes for an operation on the eyes. Mro. M. A. Stubbs left Tuesday for St .FraiiiCls Hospital, Charleston, for an opreation. Mrs Maggie McDaughlin. of the Reedy Creek section spent Monday in town. D. D. Williamson and R. P. Hamer were among the visitors here Monday. Mrs. Henry Ruck, of Marlon, spent Tuesday with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Badger. Dr. W. Stackhouse has returned from a trip to Americus, Ga., where he has extensive farming interests. Prof. D. T. Kinard went to Charleston Tuesday where he will take the Shriner's degree in Masonry. Mr. H. H. McLaurin and daughter, Miss Lyda McLaurin spent Wednesday in town with the family of Mr. D. D. MacDonald. Mr. C. E Peck, who has been ill for some time past, is rapidly improving and will soon be able to get out among his friends. Miss Bessie Carmichael spent Sun day at Florence Infirmary with her mother, Mrs. Agnes Carmichael who is a patient at that place. Miss Cappie King, of Coker Col- < lege, is spending a few days in town . with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. ] W. King. Miss Bessie Lane returned Moil- 4 day night from a visit to friends and relatives in Tennessee and Ala- 1 bama. ' Mr. Jas. M. Carmichael, agent for the "E. M. F." automobile has re- , cently sold one of his large touring , cars to Mr. A. L. Parham at Mai- . lory. Mr. J. A. Hutchlns, linotype operator at The Herald office, went over to Marion Saturday night to ' .. install a linotype for the Marion Star. Arrangements are being made to run an extra Pullman car from Dillon to the automobile races at Savannah next month. It is said this j will be the greatest auto race ever held in America. A feature of the Cumberland i County Fair, to be held October 25th, 26th and 27tli, will be a daylight exhibition of Japanese fire works, which will be given on Friday, the closing day. This is the first exhibition of the kind to be given in the South, and the attraction no doubt will draw a large crowd. Pete Herring who was shot and painfully wounded near Kentyre last week by Duncan McDaniel is recovering from his wounds. The affair is very much regretted not only by Mr. McDaniel, who says he shot to save himself, but by the friends of both parties. Both are well known farmers of the Kentvre aection. It is said that the fruit trees are blooming in the lower pant of the State, and that if the present warm weather con.tin.ues much longer the trees will produce another crop of fruit. This is a rather queer condition of affairs and if the fall seasons continue to get longer and longer every year we might as well change the calandar and make August September and October summer months. The Woman's Club held its first meeting of the fall season with the Mrs. D. N. Oliver. The meeting was well attended and most enjoyable. Mrs. L. R. Craig read several chapters from one of the Clubs' new books. There was music by Mesdames Oliver and McCurtis. An ice cream course was served. Those who attended the meeting were Mesdames W. C. Tolar, Wm. Murchison, I... R. Craig, J. B. Gibson, J. W. King, F. Niernsee. C. R. Taber, John C. Bethea, McC. Curtis, L. C. Braddy. The next meeting will be held at a Mrs. Frank Niernsee'e next Monday afternoon. A Hliow. ? "The Man on the Box," at the auditorium Saturday night, was one of the best comedy dramas ever presented in Dillon. The attendance was not very large, but the small crowd did not seem to chill the enthusiasm of the players who did their very best to measure up to the expectations of the audience. Mr. Bert Leigh, owner of the troupe, assumes the role of "The Man on the Box," and the positions he is placed in are very laughable. Mr. Leigh seems to be well made for the part he plays and his splendid work, backed by his excellent supporters, who do their parts in very creditable style makes the entertainment very interesting andd enjoyable. The company came under a guarantee and as the attendance was very small the promoters did not take in enough to pay expenses, but it can be said to their credit that they provided the public with one of the beet shows ever seen In Dillon, and the public should snow their appreciation by patronizing the plays of the future more liberally. KIDDED BY TRAIN. Dr. A. .1. Evans' Brotlior Killed in Atlanta. Dr. A. J. Evans received a telegram Sunday stating that his brother had been killed by a train in Atlanta that morning. The tele cram did not give the particulars. I)r. Evans left immediately for Atlanta by the Seaboard train Sunday afternoon. Dr. Evans' brother is a travelling man and it is presumed that he met his death while getting off or on the train. His home was at Rock Hill. Lieut, and Mrs. Andrew F. Carter are visiting at the home of the former's father, Mr. W. J. Carter. Master's Sale. Slate of South Carolina, County of Dillon. Court of Common Pleas. Fred C.
