Profs. \V. H. Perkins and A. N.
Harper, of Clemson College, were
in Dillon Monday to confer with
members of the Dillon Board of
Trade in regard to locating the
experiment station in Dillon county.
Prof Perkins is at the head of
department of agriculture at Clemson
and Prof. Harper is at the
head of experimental work. They

counties which are interested in securing
the station and the object
of their visit to Dillon Monday was
to look at lands suitable for locating
a station. On account of
the bad weather Messrs. Perkins
and Harper could not make a thorough
investigation of Dillon county
lands, but it is their puri>ose to
return to Diilon at a later date
and look over such sites as may
be offered for sale. It will require
a site of at least 200 acres for the
station, with about 75 acres cleared.

Clemson. It will be a permanent
institution and will be in charge of

a bid to A. B. Jordan, president, of
the Dillon Board of Trade, and the
hid will be submitted to the Clemson
authorities. As Messrs. Perkins
and Harper return to Dillon such
lands as are affered for sale will
l>e inspected. All bids will be
held in the strictest confidence and
juch bids as are not considered or
accepted will be destroyed. All
bids should be made in writing, us
the Clemson officials will not consider
verbal bids.
Records ltig Mortgage.
The largest mortgage ever recorded
in Dillon county was placed
in record the other day by Clerk of
Court Bethea. The mortgage was
for $50,000,000 and was given by
the Southern Bell Telephone Co.
to the Banker's Trust Company, of
New York. It contained about 60
typewritten pages and the cost of
recording amounted to $60. The
mortgage covers nearly all of the
Southern Bell company's property
in the South.
