Mrs. Nathan Kirkwood, of 39.2 iW1 Hipka street, Philadelphia, sentenced her husband to one year in the House of Correction, according to a special dispatch from the Baltimore Sun. The woman appeared against her husband in the Manayunk Police Court. After hearing the testimony the magistrate called Mrs. Kirk wood tc the bench, and informed her that she would have to be the judge as to the length of time her husband would remain in jail. "You go to the House of Cor|L> rectlon for one vear," Mrs. Kirkwood snapped at her husband, with^ out a second's hesitation. KLrkwood pleaded with the magistiate, but the pleading broughl forth the answer thut the sentence was just and would stand. According to Mrs. Kirkwood, kei husband imbibed too freely and sold all the shoes in the house in ordei to get money with which to pur! V chase liquor. He came home oarl> one morning and started to beat hit j wife and four children. Mrs Kirkwood says she has been forced tc 1 support the children and thoughl that a year in jail might make hei husband a better provider. 0 Colored Preacher: "He fo' pari Ob de house will please sit down ! for de hind part cannot see de fo part if de fo' part persists in standi ing be-to' de hind part, to the uttab obscluslon oh de hind part by do fo > part.
