PLOL'<iHKI> WITH DYNAMITE.
Experiment of Spartanburg Fanner
Attracting Attention.
Spartanburg, S. C., Aug 25.?
J. Henry Caldwell, the only farmer
in the country who ploughs his
fields by using dynamite, has the
j best corn in Spartanburg county.
! And this corn cron was irrnwti ?n
the land that was ploughed by placing
charges of dynamite five or six
feet apart and discharging them.
The earth was literally blown to
pieces and it was not necessary to
do any further ploughing preparatory
to planting the corn. There
are fifty rows of corn planted in
the field that was ploughed by dyuamite
and it is as pretty corn as
the oldest inhabitant ever saw.
The corn has just begun to mature
at present and the estimates
of the yield have been made by experts,
all of whom say that Mr.
j Caldwell has the best corn in the
county and will carry off the valuable
prizes offered by several t>usiness
institutions in this city for
the best crop.
Mr. Caldwell's <?w:i estimate of
his yield is as follows: There is
4? rows with t: 11 stalks to the row
Averaging two ears to the stalk
'there will be ' ears. All*'v.j
