that the guano distributor
which he has Invented will be admit
ted to the patent office, as there
is nothing about the machine that ti
fringes upon the other distributors
now in use. As soon as letters patont
are planted, it is Mr. Stubbs'
purpose to employ a force of good
men and place thu machines on sale
in every cotton growing county in
the south. The machine will do
everything that is claimed for It
and therein no questionng tiie fact
that t. s a great tme and labor saver.
Mr. Stubbs has contracted with
a manufacturing establishment to
make the distributors ant| he will
have a full supply of them on hand

account of trouble with the > new
press. It was expected that the Issue
would be printed on time, notwithstanding
the difficulties usually
experienced in getting machinery
of that kind in working order, but
at the last moment troubles that
were never dreamed of loomed up.

up in time and Mr. S. J. Salmon
worked faithfully on the engine,
while Mr. J. F. Clark, The Herald's
foreman, worked .on the big
press as long as It was light enough
to see a bolt head, but at the last
moment it was discovered that there
was not an available dry cell battery
In town and there was no motive
power. It seemed like a little thing
but unless batteries could be securec
all the work was for naught as the
big press could not be turned by
hand. But friends came to the rescue
again and between Mr. Salmon
and Mr. Phil Osteon enough batteries
were secured to put the engine
in operation and the papers began
to roll from the press at noon Friday?a
little more than 48 -hours
1 behind schedule time. Those of our
friends who have attempted to operate
reapers and binders or cotton
pickers can get a faint conception
of the troubles one experiences in
setting pp linot *>e machines and
prnilng presses.
Messrs. P. B. Sellers and W. C.
Moore have formed a copartnership
for the practice of law under the
ngme of Sellers & Moore. Mr. Sellers'Is
the oldest member of the Dlilou
Bar, having moved to Dillon
from Marlon about 15 years ago
when the town was in Its swaddling
clothes and is, of course, wellknown
to every resident of the coun
ty. Mr. Moore is a native of Spartanburg
county and is a graduate
I or Wofford. His law degree waa
taken at Che University of North
Carolina. For the past four years
Mr. Moore has been superintendent
of the McOoll graded schools and
sonle months ago he was married to
a Miss Fletcher of that town. Mr.
