Dear Sir:?I beg to acknowledge (
receipt of yours of the 14th inst. j
containing check for $1,000 to cover s
the policy held by my late hus- *
band, Mr. S. L, Page, in the South ]
Atlantic Life Insurance Company. In
this connection I wish to ex- t
press my appreciation of the
promptness with which the claim *
was settled. The proofs of death ^
were completed and forwarded to a
be home office on the 13th inst. f
and the check was received on the
14th. I consider this a remark- 1
ably quick settlement, inasmuch 's
as there is always more or less red %
tape and unnecessary delay in the r

A new farmer's telephone line
having five subscribers has just
been connected with the Dillon
exchange of the Southern Bell
Telephone Company. The line
extends seven miles to Hamer and
furnishes service to the following
well-known people: J. F. Martin,
Hamer Cotton Mill, T. B.
McEachern, A. C. L. Ry. Co's Deppt,
at Hamer, S. C. A., K. McLellan.
The subscribers on the
line are now in constant telephonic
communication with eaoh
other and through the Southern
Bell exchange with telephone
users in Dillon. The construction
of this line and its connection with
the telephone exchange here is
another step in the oroerress of
telephone deyelopement which is
being made by the residents in the
rural sections of Marion County.
Under the plan of the Southern
Bell Company farmers and other
rural dwellers are enabled to secure
telephone service on an economical
basis. As a result, farmers
in all sections of the State
are installing telephones in their '
homes. |
That Old. Old Pathway.
We cry,
We talk,
We laugh,
We walk.
Our mother's pride and joy.
We fight,
We swear,
And pants
We wear;
Our father's little boy.
We dance,
We smoke,
' Hold hands,
And joke; j
A girl and then a row.
We drink,
We eat,
Play cards,
And treat ;
The fellows claim us now.
We love,
1 We're led,
We woo,
We wed;
At leisure we repent,
We work,
We sigh,
And soon
We die;
So many a life is spent.
