Mr. j. A. MeEachcrn, of Rowland,
a brother of Mr. J. B.
McEachern of Hamer, has opened
a stock of fancy groceries in j
the Bass building on the corner !
of Railroad avenue and Harrison
street. Mr. McEachern is interested
in a fur manufacturing
plant in New York and spends
most of his time travelling in the
interest of his firin, consequently
he has moved to Dillon where he
can get better railroad connections.
In the spring he purchases
truck for several large
houses in the north and as he has
i engaged in trucking himself and
understands the culture of all
1 kinds of truck it is his purpose to
vet the T~)i11r?n npnnle Jn
a local association. He says the
lands in this section are better
adapted to truck growing than are
the lands further north and he
sees no reason why the industry
could not be made as profitable
here as elsewhereThe
new radroad referred to in
the last issue of the Herald has
been projected from Lumberton to
Dillon oy way of Fairmont and on
: to Brownsville. It is understood
that a surveying party is making for
Dillon and as the company owns
the quite a lot of timber in Brownsville
section the general impression
is they are making tor this noint.
| Should the line be built it will run
i in the vicinity of Reedy Creek
* Springs, the property recently acquired
by Messrs. Bethea and
, Gibson. Trains are being operated
over a section of their road between
Hope Mills and Lumberton
and it is understood that before
very long the load will have I
, reached Fairmont. The Herald
has found out nothing definite in
, regard to the coming of this road,
except that is is making for the
Brownsville section and that Dillon
will be included in the route.
The B. & C. road running out from
Bennettsville has been extended to
Brownsville and there may be
some plan on foot to connect the
