It has been said, with justice, that
this elpborate florid music is too beau
tiful to express properly the tense
dramatic situation implied in the
text. But Donizetti, fl,Ued with the
flowing melodies of Italy, and know
Ing the kind of music his peopk-
loved, shrewdly divined that his mu
sic would be cherished when all
thoughts of the dramatic situation
bad been forgotten. Phonograph rec
ords in Italian are quite as popular
among us-as those in English. Of its
kind, this wonderful ensemble is su
preme: it defies criticism. -
HEALTH SERVICE GETS RE
PORTS ON NAA BROADCASTING
Since the transference of the broad
casting carried on by various Depart
ments of the government through
N,OF to NAA, Navpl Radio Station, at
Arlington, which took place on Jan
uary 3 of this year, the Public Health
information by Radio Service, of tbe
Bureau of the United States Public
Health Service,, has received 207 re
ports from members of the radio au
dience on this change of setvlce and
wave leng’h from 435 to 7i0 meters.
The bureau of the Public Health
Service reports that thesn replies tend
to indicate that many operators are
having difficulty in receiving on high
er wave lengths. One hundred fifty-
nve operators reported that they
were regular listeners-in on the pub
lic health broadcasts. One hundred
twenty-live operaters repdot-jd vhear-
: ne NOF regularly, 77 Irregularly.
Beventy-nlne operators reported
hearing the broadcast released
through NOF on January 2; ll‘) re
ported that they did not hear this
Broadcast. Seventy-three reported
hearing the public health broadcast
released through NAA on January 8.
One hundred nineteen did not hear
this broadcast. Eighty-five reported
that they had received voice broad
casting through NAA since January
3: 112 reported that they were un
able to receive these broadcasts.
Forty-nine of these operators were
affiliated with radio clubs: 141 were
pot. Eleven were members of listen‘
